Cliffs overlooking the sea, velvety stretches of sand and rich pebble beaches: these are the coasts that the Marches Riviera offers. Moreover, sixteen seaside resorts have been awarded the Blue Flag including the velvet beaches, the Conero Riviera and the Riviera delle Palme.
With its immense natural heritage, the Marche hinterland provides us with suggestive enchanting landscapes. You can dive into the greenery of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, and of the regional ones, such as Monte Conero, the Frasassi and Rossa Gorges.
Do not even miss the vast natural reserves such as the Fiastra Abbey, the Furlo Pass and the San Vicino and Canfaito Mountains. Near these natural wonders you can admire bathing lakes with small beaches (Fiastra and Cingoli Lakes) or reachable via paths such as the Pilato Lake. There is everything you need to enjoy the pure air of nature and to be able to carve out moments of leisure and relaxation.
For adventure, trekking lovers but not only, you can go hiking nestled in a unique landscape like that of the Marche Region. Among the best known trails practicable on foot, by bicycle, and on horseback, there are the fascinating gorges of the Marmitte dei Giganti (Giant’s kettle) and the Marche canyon - the Lame Rosse. Famous for their stalactites and stalagmites formed out of the contact between water and rock, the Frasassi Caves represent a must-see natural wonder. With its Caves, do not even miss the underground city of Camerano. The Marche Region is also rich in adventure parks (Frasassi, Cingoli and Fiastra) and theme parks for children (Falconara Zoo and Dinosaur Park in Matelica).
Ancient villages and historic cities constitute the cultural baggage of the Marche Region. Some of them are known for representing the birthplace of Raphael in Urbino, Leopardi in Recanati and Rossini in Pesaro. Located in Jesi and in Ascoli Piceno, respectively,
Piazza Federico II,
birthplace of Frederick II of Swabia, and
Piazza del Popolo
known as “The Living Room of Italy”, represent two main instances of famous and immense squares.
Among the medieval walls that surround the Marche Region villages, and famous for the legend of Paolo and Francesca, the
Castle of Gradara
stands out. It is a site of historical re-enactments, together with other villages such as Offagna, with the Medieval Festival, Filottrano, with “La Contesa dello Stivale” (The Boot Contest), and Camerino, with “La Corsa della Spada” (The Sword Race).

Among the various attractions, you cannot miss the food and the possibility to delight your palate with typical Marche products: olive all’ascolana (Ascoli stuffed olives), the brodetto ,the crescia sfogliata di Urbino (a kind of puff pastry flatbread) the cheese pizza the calcioni (ravioli filled with cheese) , the scroccafusi (a kind of Carnival dessert), ciauscolo (a spreadable salami), maccheroncini di Campofilone (a type of egg pasta) and many other delicacies. All these dishes are obviously accompanied by typical Marche wines, including the sour cherry wine, ”the Varnelli” (an aniseed liqueur) and the various bitters and liqueurs of the region.
